Roberto Lugo: Hi-Def Archives
Coinciding with NCECA, the Cincinnati Art Museum has curated an exhibit featuring works by Roberto Lugo alongside pieces from their collection of Rookwood Pottery. Lugo also held a two week residency inside the museum where he created new works in a gallery space and welcomed visitors to come and view the process.
Exhibition overview from Cincinnati Art Museum's website:
"Roberto Lugo: Hi-Def Archives features recent works by Lugo. He intends the exhibition to “be both an homage to the village that raised me up and the legacy of Rookwood Pottery.” Showing his work in conversation with selections from the museum’s Rookwood collection, Lugo examines intersections of community, place, and identity, celebrating the rich craft history of Cincinnati while simultaneously recontextualizing the impact of ceramics as contemporary cultural objects that honor all of us."
We visited the museum during Lugo's residency to see his finished pieces on display, as well as catch up with him in his gallery work space. He was gracious enough to grant us the short interview below.
Lugo's residency has since ended, but the exhibit of his finished works alongside pieces from the museum's collection of Rookwood Pottery is up now through September 24, 2023. Access to the exhibit is included in Cincinnati Art Museum's free general admission!
