Upgrade Your Kitchen This Spring: DIY Sponge & Brush Holder with Video Tutorial
Hey everyone, and welcome back! Spring is in the air, and that means it's time to freshen things up! Today, we're giving you a quick look at how to throw a chic and functional sponge and brush holder for your kitchen. Let's get started!
Step 1: Throwing the Clay:
First things first, we'll center a nice ball of #112 Brown Stoneware with Specks Clay on the wheel. Remember to keep your clay well-wedged for a smooth throwing experience.
Step 2: Shaping the Form:
Now, let's throw two pots! Focus on creating consistent walls and a squared off base. Here's where the magic happens – we'll be using the Garrity Tools Texture1 Rib to achieve that trendy bubble shape. This tool will add a modern touch to your final piece.
Step 3: Adding a Playful Touch:
Time to separate our creations from the throwing bat. But wait! We're not going for a boring straight cut. Instead, let's use a Sherrill Mud Curly Mudwire to create a cool "foot" at the base. This adds a playful detail and extra stability.
Step 5: Functionality First!:
Here's where we add a touch of functionality. While the clay is still leather hard, we'll carve a small notch in the sponge holder. This little indentation will be the perfect resting place for your sponge.
Step 6: Firing Up Your Creativity:
We'll bisque fire our creations to cone 04 in a Bailey Top Loading Electric Kiln before glazing.
Step 7: Glazing for Perfection:
We're using Coyote's MBG182 Satin White Liner glaze for a sleek finish.
Step 8: Time to Shine (Literally!):
The final firing is done at cone 5 with a medium speed.
Happy throwing!
