Harvest Leaf Platter
This harvest platter is inspired by the piles of leaves that collect under trees in the Fall. The organic form and warm color of this platter celebrate the season and would make a lovely handmade addition to any harvest table.
To create this platter we used some really handy tools like Leaf Press Mold Mats, GR Mold Forms, and a Bailey Slab Roller. The sensitivity of clay allows it to pick up fine details like the veins in a leaf. These details are showcased through a semi-transparent AMACO Celadon glaze. Create a harvest platter for your Fall table in a few easy steps. Follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
We used 1. Bailey Slab Roller | 2. Rolling Pin | 3. Clay | 4. Brush | 5. Needle Tool | 6. Sherrill MudSponge | 7.Xiem Scoring Tool | 8. Sherill Mud Rib | 9. GR Mold Forms | 10. Leaf Press Molds 11. AMACO Iron Celadon
Step 2: Roll out a slab of clay. We used the Bailey Mini-Might Slab Roller to roll out our slabs of clay.
Step 3: Place the Leaf Press Molds face down onto the clay slab and use a rolling pin to make an impression in the clay.
Step 4: Use a needle tool to cut the around the leaf edges through the clay.
Step 5: Place the first clay leaf face down against the GR Mold Form and score around its edges.
Step 6: Use a brush to apply slip (liquid clay to the edges) and then overlap another clay leaf onto the first.
Step 7: Continue adding clay leaves to develop the platter form.
Step 8: Flip the mold over and carefully release the clay from the mold form.
Step 9: After bisque, apply a glaze to the surface of the platter and along the outer rim.
Step 10: Fire the piece as instructed on the glaze label. Enjoy!
