The Bailey Pro 50R Potter’s Wheel
At Bailey Pottery Equipment, we sell a lot of pottery wheels and we know that researching the “best pottery wheel” can take a lot of time and energy. So here we are going to talk about the Bailey Pro 50R, a pottery wheel that has become a customer favorite for its functionality, dependability, and value.
The Pro 50R delivers impressive power from very slow to fast speeds, no matter what weight of clay is being thrown up to 50 pounds. The motor on the Pro50R produces a ½ horsepower capable of centering up to 50 pounds of clay easily. That’s a whole box of clay!
So what’s really different about this Bailey Pro 50R wheel, compared to other professional pottery wheels? Well if we had to boil it down this wheel has excellent ergonomic and functional considerations.
The sleek, buttery smooth pedal is slightly longer than competitive pedals, accommodating both small and large feet comfortably. The low heel design keeps your calf in a relaxed stance. The frame of the Pro 50R is exceptionally sturdy, featuring a reinforced T-bar construction. This provides unprecedented stability when leaning into the clay. Because we all have different proportions, the optional leg extensions allow the wheel to be adjusted to the perfect comfort point. The Pro 50R is very quiet, with a subtle sound which makes repeating specific speeds very accurate. This is beneficial for identifying the correct speed for centering and pulling.
The most distinguishable feature of the Bailey Pro 50R has got to be the 1-piece counter pan that defines the large area around the 12" wheel head. It provides an incredibly spacious working zone with a built-in drain and side discharge panel that make for easy cleaning. Teachers love it when students aren’t carrying splash pans to and from the sink. Keeping our floors clean, now that’s something we can all appreciate! The broad edge on this pan is also much more comfortable to lean against than other two-piece splash pans. In fact, you can really bear down on the pan to steady your arms for centering. And now, all of the Bailey Pro Series wheels come with a free “Ergo Counter”, an added shelf that provides even more working room for your tools.
Bill van Gilder, a professional potter loves the Bailey Pro series of wheels. He did a lot of research before buying his. This is what he said about these wheels, “It will go really fast, but it will also go really slow. I also use the wheel as a workspace and I need that consistent slow, slow speed and this wheel has it.”
