How to Make a Ceramic Egg Carton for Spring!
With just a few simple tools and materials, you can create a charming handmade ceramic egg carton—perfect for spring gatherings, Easter brunch, or adding a rustic touch to your kitchen. Follow along with our step-by-step process and video!
Materials & Tools Used:
✔ Bailey 16" Mini Might Tabletop Slab Roller – for an even clay slab
✔ CCS Speckled Stoneware Clay – a beautiful, textured clay body
✔ Cardboard Egg Carton – used as a simple drape mold
✔ Mudtools MudSponge – for gentle shaping
✔ Bailey Top-Loading Electric Kiln – bisque to Cone 04, glaze fire to Cone 6
✔ Coyote Enduro Glazes – a durable, food-safe glaze perfect for layering

We used Honeydew & Summer Peach for a soft spring palette
Step-by-Step Process:
1️⃣ Roll Out a Slab – Use a Bailey Tabletop Slab Roller to roll an even slab of Speckled Stoneware Clay.
2️⃣ Size & Shape – Lay a cardboard egg carton on top of the slab, trace the shape, and cut it to fit.
3️⃣ Drape & Press – Gently drape the clay over the egg carton mold. Use a Mudtools soft sponge to ease the clay into the indentations.
4️⃣ Let It Set – Allow the clay to dry until it reaches a hard leather-hard state.
5️⃣ Remove & Refine – Flip the clay off the mold, smooth the edges with a rib and sponge.
6️⃣ Bisque Fire – Once fully dry, fire to Cone 04 in a Bailey Top-Loading Electric Kiln.
7️⃣ Glaze & Fire Again – Apply 3 coats of Coyote Enduro Glaze using a brush. Fire to Cone 6 for a strong, food-safe finish.
8️⃣ Enjoy Your Handmade Egg Carton! – Perfect for your spring table, brunch display, or as a farmhouse-inspired kitchen piece!
