Crystalites glazes consist of a base color glaze with contrasting colored crystals mixed in. When fired, these crystals melt and spread producing striking effects. Although designed for Cone 06 techniques, they may be fired as high as Cone 6 with beautiful results. Colors may change and the crystals will flow more as the temperature increases. For all temperatures, it is recommended not to place crystals toward the bottom of the ware to prevent them from running onto the shelf. In addition, the melted crystals sometimes create a textured surface that may be difficult to clean properly. For this reason they are not recommended for use on food surfaces.
