Ceramics is now offering Tube
Assemblies and other replacement parts to fit existing Dawson Kiln
Sitters. Originally there were 2 distinct styles of Tube Assembies: either
with a bracket or without. Orton has chosen to produce only tube
assemblies with brackets (Type A or Type C
) as shown below. The short Bracket on the Type A tube measures approx. 1”
while the Long Bracket of the Type C tube measures approx. 2”. The size
of the Bracket corresponds to the distance between the Face Plate and
Back Plate of the Kiln Sitter — see diagram below. Please read through
all of the following information to determine how to order the correct
replacement tube for your Sitter. If you have any questions please contact

pictured below, Orton will no longer supply this style. All tube
assemblies will now include a mounting
bracket as shown on the Type
A and
Type C
examples
above.

To
determine the correct Type
A or Type
C tube to
replace an existing Type B tube you must:
1) Measure the distance between the Face plate and
Back plate of your Kiln Sitter. Refer to Diagram
A at the
top of the page.
2)
Measure "X"
on your
tube as shown above.
3)
If the
measurement from Step 1 is approx 1” you
must order a Type
A tube.
Add 1” to ‘X’: this
is your Order
Length.
Find the Order
Length
in the top half of the Chart to the right and
order the corresponding Item No. For example,
if "X"
measures 6”, your order size will be
7” (6+1) and you will order a C-172-S7.
4) If
the measurement from Step 1 is approx 2” you
must order a Type
C tube.
Add 2” to ‘X’: this
is your Order
Length.
Find the Order
Length
in the bottom half of the Chart to the right
and order the corresponding Item No. For
example, if "X"
measures 7”, your order size will
be 9” (7+2) and you will order a C-172-L9.

Please note: when
replacing your Type B Tube Assembly with a Type A or C for the first time,
you will need a new Back Plate for
your Kiln Sitter. A Type B Tube
Assembly is attached by a large nut to the Back Plate of the Kiln
Sitter. There is a hole in the Back Plate where the tube is attached.
The Type A & C
Tubes are attached by a bracket to the Front Plate of the
sitter and the Tube must pass through the hole in the Back Plate.
Unfortunately, the diameter of the ceramic tube is larger than the
existing hole in Back Plate; therefore, it is necessary to replace the
Back Plate. Orton will provide new Back Plates at no charge along with
instructions for the proper installation. Please order a Back Plate (Item
No. C-172-BP) if you are replacing a Type
B tube assembly for the first time. Once you have made the
change over, order future replacements from the Chart at the top of
this page. |
