200 MM Bailey Oxy-Probe

The  Oxygen Probe is one of the most valuable pieces of gas kiln instrumentation to come along for the potter. This instrument accurately monitors the atmosphere in the kiln, and gives exact readouts (in digital form) as to the amount of reduction or oxidation present. How many times have you been puzzled as to why a firing will not progress, or why the glazes did not turn out properly? With the Bailey Oxy Probe, you eliminate all the guess work. You will know exactly what the atmospheric conditions are in the kiln, no matter what stage you are at in your firing. Also, you will be able to reduce firing costs. The Bailey Probe will allow you to adjust the balance of your burners, air intake, and damper, to achieve an optimum neutral flame. A neutral atmosphere is what yields the most economical firing, since there is no wasted fuel in combustion. Other benefits include being able to do an accurate mild reduction all throughout the firing, instead of forcing the kiln into a heavy “over” reduction and creating the unnecessary carbon smoke. Also, you can get your gas kiln to deliver perfect oxidation firings for glazes that will react negatively to a reduction atmosphere. The Bailey Oxygen Probe includes a fiber lined outer protection tube that protects the concealed smaller ceramic tube, the zirconia tip, and the platinum wire.  The Bailey Oxygen Probe also includes a fiber insulated stainless steel heat shield to protect the outside "head" of the probe from heat.  The Bailey unit was designed for easy servicing of the platinum wire.  Should the wire require partial replacement, we service our units promptly at our facility.  Never mount an oxygen probe in a  larger hole in the kiln which does not make a good heat seal.  Never use a spy hole as an entry point.  Bore a hole that fits the protection tube and prevent flames from escaping.

The 200 MM Probe measures approximately 7" long (from the heat shield mounting point to the tip). We recommend this size probe for kiln walls measuring up to 5" thick from the exterior mount surface to inner wall surface.  Ideally, the probe should extend beyond the inside wall surface 2" into the chamber. Note: walls with 4.5" or less of insulating fire brick with an exterior metal surface touching the brick do get hot. You need to protect the meter from heat radiation from the exterior wall surface.
