Features:
The knurled aluminum Rollers are 2.5" diameter and 30" wide. The knurling provides a non-skid surface to grab and project the canvas and clay through the machine.
The 23" Diameter Wheel makes slabbing much easier and is more comfortable to use than a crank handle. The round wheel allows you to stand straight while rolling. A crank handle requires a 'stooping' action that isn't as comfortable due to the up and down bending motion. The 23" Round Handle also provides added leverage which requires less strength to roll slabs.
Two Independent Height Adjustment knobs and scales are located on either side of the machine for adjusting the thickness of the slab. Each side has a thickness indicator and an inch scale reference.
Portability! Two portable counters are placed on either side of the machine in seconds. The counters and the SRT-30 have rubber feet to keep them secure on your table while forming slabs. You can roll clay in either direction. If you want to free up your work table, the machine and counters can be removed quickly and easily.
Operation:
To roll slabs with the Bailey SRT-30, always use plastic, easily wedge-able clay. Depending on how wide you place the clay and how high, it may require multiple incremental passes to form your finished slabs. Do not try to reduce the slab thickness by more than 1/2" in a single pass. If you feel too much resistance as you roll or the slab stalls on the way through, reduce the height of the feed clay.
Schools, Studio Potters and Commercial Operations are advised to purchase our Bailey DRD/II or "Original Series: professional quality rollers with a Lifetime Warranty. Our professional machines have better bearings, can roll larger amounts of clay in one pass to the finished size, require much less time & effort to roll the slabs, have fast simultaneous height adjustment, and are designed to survive the rigors of an active studio or classroom.
