I am in the early phase of my exploration of making ceramics. I have been around ceramics and craft for years as a collector and photographer and decided last year to learn how to do it myself. I have been taking classes and spending lots of extra time in the open studio at The Art League Ceramics School in Alexandria, Virginia. Most recently, my classes have been about surface design. Receiving the grand prize gift certificate from Bailey’s will enable me to be even more creative as I obtain more tools and more glazes to try out more techniques and ideas. I am very grateful for this and excited to see what I can accomplish. Through my involvement with the James Renwick Alliance, a support organization for the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery and other craft organizations, I have gotten to meet many well known ceramic artists and have gotten even more inspiration from them. This spring I got to meet the Gills from Alfred University. That was a super treat.
