What makes Dolan tools so special? They are truly heavy duty and designed for maximum performance. Individually hand-crafted from select hardwoods and “knife quality” high carbon steel, the function of each tool is carefully considered and reflected in its design. Each Series of Dolan tools is proportioned to suit a different application from the finest detailed carving to the heaviest trimming and sculptural work. The blades vary in width (based on loop size) and are heat-treated, quenched in oil and hand-honed to extreme sharpness. Because high carbon steel takes and holds a much sharper edge than stainless, they last longer against even

highly-grogged clays and plaster. Furthermore, Dolan uses the heaviest gauge steel suitable for each sized loop allowing blades to be resharpened if necessary. All blades (except the 100-Series) are retained by brass ferrules and firmly set with industrial adhesive to protect against water and prevent them from coming loose. The 100-Series blades are deep set into massive handles and riveted in place, All handles are polished for comfort and sealed against water damage for the longest possible life. You owe it to yourself and your work to use quality tools — and Dolan makes the highest quality tools available.

Dolan Tool Maintenance — Dolan tools should be kept clean & dry when not in use. A light coat of oil should be applied to both the blade and wood handle periodically for longest life. To sharpen: DO NOT use a file or power grinder. Files are too coarse and a power grinder will heat the steel, change the temper and destroy the tool. Dolan recommends using a whetstone (oil or water) to quickly restore your tool’s keen edge without damage to the steel.
