Brent Slab Rollers
Construction
These particular Brent slab rollers are constructed with heavy
gauge steel pipe and plate, permanently sealed ball bearings, and aviation
cable.
Drive System
The rollers are driven by aviation cable which is wrapped
around the drive wheel shaft. This cable connects to either end of the
table. As the drive wheel is turned, the bale is spooled onto the drive
shaft, and the roller is advanced. Cables need periodic replacement.

Can be used on a table top or mounted on the optional leg set. It rolls
out slabs 14" wide and 3 feet long. Includes 3 Masonite shims.

SR
Series Operation
Brent Machines have one roller that tracks back and forth
on the top of a steel frame. This frame contains the inner
"bed" which is supported by wooden 2 X 4s with layers of
Masonite stacked on top. To change the thickness of a given slab,
Masonite shims are added or removed from the bed. The thickness of
the slab is variable in increments of 1/8" (Starting
1/8", up to 1-1/4"). |
Note: on the larger Brent
machines, the middle of the "bed" bows,
causing a thicker middle and thinner edges in the slabs. This
effect is more evident in thinner slabs (up to 1/2" thick).
To roll a slab, the operator selects the desired thickness and
lays the clay on the bed in front of the roller. The operator then
walks and turns the handle simultaneously until the roller meets
the other end of the table. Then the roller is backed to the
starting point and the slab is removed. |

SRC
Operation
As with all Brent Slab machines, one roller is used to form the
slab. The operator walks down the table as the crank is turned.
The clay is "run over" and then the roller has to be
cranked back to expose the slab.
SRC Drive
System
The SRC has no bearings. The pipe is driven and held in place by
cable alone. These cables are wrapped around |
the
upper pipe roller and lower pipe crank. The entire table is
sandwiched between these two wrapped pipes. Periodic adjustments
of the cables are necessary.
Each SRC comes with four 1/4"
Masonite shims (one is covered with canvas), one 1/8"
Masonite shim, and one 1" particle board bed.

Portable, yet extremely sturdy, this slab roller is compact enough to fit
on a table while rolling slabs up to 14-3/4" Wide X 14-3/4"
Long. It is constructed of steel pipe and bent plate like the SRC so it
