SlabMat
The illustration shows SlabMat on top and standard canvas below. SlabMat
is an alternative to textured canvas to use with slab machine. This
non-woven fabric-based material produces a very smooth slab surface.
To make slabs with a rolling pin, use one piece of SlabMat and roll your
clay on top. A piece of rubber shelf liner under the SlabMat will keep it
from sliding. Slab roller usage: for small slabs, use one full size
SlabMat folded in half with the clay sandwiched in between. Please note:
if you crease the SlabMat, the crease is permanent. For long slabs, use
two full length sheets of SlabMat with clay sandwiched in between. One
piece of SlabMat can be used in combination with canvas (as depicted in
the picture) to get one textured and one smooth side.
Buy separate pieces of SlabMat for each
color clay to prevent contamination.. You may wipe the surface with a damp
sponge, but do not saturate it with water. Allow the SlabMat to dry
completely before use.
It is best to remove the slab soon after
rolling because prolonged wetness may cause the SlabMat surface to become
wavy. Store SlabMats flat. To extend the life of SlabMat, avoid excessive
heat and direct sunlight.

Slab Sheet
An alternative to textured canvas for use with slab machines, this
synthetic material produces a smooth surface. It is partially
porous on one side to prevent the clay from sticking. The shiny smooth
side faces the rollers. Two panels can be run through the machine (top and
bottom), or one panel with canvas on the opposite side of the clay slab.
This a very durable material that will last for years. Requires drying
after about 10 slabs. It should be stored flat.

Slab Canvas
This is a heavy duty #6 duct cotton
canvas available in either 24", 30", 48 or 60 widths. When
ordered by the foot for a given roll width, the cut (width) edges of the
canvas will not be seamed. The canvas will be seamed on its edges (as
is woven on the loom). We recommend that canvas be pre shrunk before
use to prevent wrinkles. Never machine wash or dry! Soak a rolled canvas
in hot water with any fabric softener for 2 hours. Line dry.
