Downdraft Design
The Bailey STV offers an unbeatable combination of natural draft
combustion and downdraft design. Even heat and reductions can be achieved
throughout the entire firing with the Bailey downdrafts 360-degree
circulation pattern.
Frame Construction
The structural frame components consist of heavy-duty angle iron with an
average thickness of 3/16” with solid panel sheet metal sidewalls.

Frame & Insulation Features
Insulation
The Bailey STV Series is insulated with a variety of high quality IFB
refractory and ceramic fiber, strategically placed for maximum efficiency. The
ceilings are made with 6" of 2600 F compressed ceramic fiber. The
fiber roof systems which engineered and installed during the early 80's
are still in use. The doors are constructed with 5" of ceramic fiber.
Walls and floors are made with 2600, 2500, and 2400 F insulated
brick. This ingenious refractory profile provides a kiln that will high
fire with incredible energy efficiency, and yet, provide an optimal cool
down ramp that will allow for fast cycling. There isn't a more efficient
kiln on the market! All bricks in the main body of the kiln have been
“dry stacked” to prevent all the disadvantages of mortared wall
construction. Virtually any area of the kiln can be repaired or replaced
with a minimum of effort.
Venturi Chimney
Our unique chimney design is built to create a venturi effect, which
provides optimal positive natural draft and maximum efficiency of the
burner system. This venturi chimney also promotes excellent control at the
damper and increased circulation throughout the kiln.
12" x
24" Kiln Shelves are the best.
You will note that our STV kilns are designed for the most part to utilize
different configurations of 12 x 24 inch shelves. Without exception, the
12 x 24 shelf size is the most popular size in universities and potteries.
The 12 x 24 provides the best balance of weight, size, warp
resistance, and handling. You will especially appreciate the reduced
weight when stacking the back upper regions of the kiln. We offer
both the high alumina shelves and the nitride bonded shelves (for further weight
reduction, stability, and an easy clean surface).

| Note:
Most of our kilns use 12 x 24” shelves in the layout. The
12 x 24 is the most popular shelf because it is easy to lift,
place, and less prone to warping. The 18C kiln uses 14 x 28
inch shelves which may be preferable if you build large
platters. |
