Mixing Instructions for
Laguna Dry Raku Glazes
Because Laguna Dry Raku Glazes contain no suspenders or gums,
additions may be made to improve workability as follows:
For DIPPING or SPRAYING - Bentonite
is added to help keep the glaze in suspension and to increase drying time.
(Note: Keep Bentonite under 2.5% of Dry Glaze weight: too
much will cause excessive shrinkage and cracking of the glaze surface.)
For BRUSHING - CMC and Bentonite
are added. CMC acts as a binder and allows the glaze to flow
smoothly. (To add CMC: dissolve 1-2 Tb. in 1 gallon warm water and allow
to sit overnight. Substitute the resulting CMC Solution for 1/3
of the recommended amount of water in your formula.)
Use the chart at right as a
guide to determine how much CMC Solution and/or Bentonite to
use. Testing will be necessary to determine
the exact formula to suit your conditions.
