Glazes & Stains - Laguna Dry Raku Glazes - Cone 06

Laguna Dry Raku Glazes
Laguna’s Dry Raku Glazes are lead free and were developed especially for Raku firing. They mature at a temperature of Cone 06 and are available in a variety of colors. Due to the many variations involved in Raku firing, the descriptions given are only approximations. Your particular results may vary depending on temperature, reduction material used, length of reduction, etc.
Mixing Instructions for
Laguna Dry Raku Glazes

Because Laguna Dry Raku Glazes contain no suspenders or gums, additions may be made to improve workability as follows:

For DIPPING or SPRAYING - Bentonite is added to help keep the glaze in suspension and to increase drying time. (Note: Keep Bentonite under 2.5% of Dry Glaze weight: too much will cause excessive shrinkage and cracking of the glaze surface.)

For BRUSHING - CMC and Bentonite are added. CMC acts as a binder and allows the glaze to flow smoothly. (To add CMC: dissolve 1-2 Tb. in 1 gallon warm water and allow to sit overnight. Substitute the resulting CMC Solution for 1/3 of the recommended amount of water in your formula.)

Use the chart at right as a guide to determine how much CMC Solution and/or Bentonite to use. Testing will be necessary to determine the exact formula to suit your conditions.

TO MIX:
1. Wear a mask & gloves
2. Blend Bentonite into Dry Glaze.
3. Measure water or water + CMC Solution into a clean
container.
4. Add dry material slowly into water, stirring continuously.
Scrape sides and bottom of container frequently and mix thoroughly.
5. Screen through an 80-100 mesh sieve. (Use at least a
100 mesh sieve for Spraying Glaze).

For Each 1 Lb. of Dry Glaze
Measure Approximately:
DIPPING Water: 11 oz.
Bentonite: .5 to 2 gms.
SPRAYING Water: 8 oz.
Bentonite: 1.5 to 3.5 gms.
BRUSHING Water: 5 oz.
CMC Solution: 2 oz.
Bentonite: 4.5 to 8 gms.

Laguna Dry Raku Glazes - Cone 06
Because Raku firing does not allow the clay or glaze to mature, Raku pieces will not hold liquids and are unsuitable for food or drink containers.

NOTE: Please order glaze in whole pound increments.
